Independent investment analyst and strategist Kaspars Peisenieks, CFA, has given his assessment of the initial public offering (IPO) of LAU Infra Group. On a ten-point scale, he awarded the offering a solid six, describing it as “almost good”. The analyst says the final grade is a weighted average: some aspects deserve a higher score, while others merit a lower one.

The assessment comes a few weeks after trading in the company’s shares began on the exchange. LAU Infra Group is the first state-owned company to carry out an IPO. The bell-ringing ceremony took place on July 3, with Nasdaq Riga CEO Liene Dubava and LAU Infra Group board chairman Vilnis Vitkovskis in attendance. The event was captured by LETA photographers.

Peisenieks, a CFA charterholder, notes that this is a good moment to look back at what worked and what did not, in order to draw lessons for the next state-owned companies heading to the stock exchange. Although the analyst does not break down his scoring by individual criteria, his overall assessment indicates the transaction was reasonably successful, but not without reservations.

The deal marks an important step in the development of Latvia’s capital market. Expert reviews and public discussion of the IPO process can help future state-owned enterprises prepare more effectively for their own share offerings.
