New Dispatch Control and Data Center for Latvia's Power System Commissioned
A new dispatch control and data center has been opened in Riga to monitor and manage Latvia's electricity transmission grid in real time, funded by the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility.

Latvia has officially put into operation a new dispatch control and data center built in Riga at 86 Dārzciema Street. The facility will be used for real-time monitoring and management of the country's electricity transmission system, critical for energy supply security.
The project is supported by the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility, with total costs of €38.1 million. Of this, €27 million is allocated for the construction of the center and the production base complex, while €11.1 million is for information systems and network management digitalization. The construction was carried out by SIA "NEWCOM Construction".
Climate and Energy Minister Jānis Vitenbergs noted that the new center is one of the last significant infrastructure elements after the Baltic states disconnected from the Russian electricity network and joined the European system. The building was constructed with enhanced security requirements to address the changing geopolitical situation.
The center is located at the historic site "Jāņciems," where the first transmission line from Ķegums Hydroelectric Power Station was built in 1939. AST Chairman Rolands Irklis emphasized that this project marks a new era for the company and the entire energy system.
The project also involved the reconstruction of the production base – out of about 40 buildings built from the 1930s to the 1990s, most were demolished and rebuilt. By the autumn of 2027, the transport building and checkpoint are scheduled to be completed. The project was granted national interest object status in 2022 and is included in AST's ten-year development plan.
