Exports not just for big players: small Latvian businesses can conquer world by finding niche
The myth that exports are only for large companies is outdated – in the digital age, even a home hobby can become a globally competitive product, says an expert.

A common misconception persists that exports are suitable only for large enterprises and factories. However, in today's digital world, this myth is obsolete. Aigars Runčis, Director of the Business Growth Service of Latvijas Mobilais Telefons, stated on Latvijas Radio program "Kā labāk dzīvot" that even a hobby born in a basement or creative workshop can conquer global markets – the key is to find a specific niche.
Runčis emphasized that digital technologies enable small entrepreneurs to reach customers worldwide without massive investments in infrastructure. By using e-commerce and social media, even small-scale producers can attract international audiences. He also noted that support instruments are available in Latvia – such as business growth services – that help small companies learn the basics of exports and develop cooperation with foreign partners.
According to the expert, success depends not on large production volumes but on uniqueness and the ability to offer a product that stands out in the global market. Thus, exports become accessible not only to large players but also to small business owners willing to leverage digital opportunities.
