According to a person with knowledge of the deal, Elastic has agreed to acquire DeductiveAI, a startup using AI to catch and resolve software bugs, for up to $85 million. DeductiveAI was founded in 2023 and emerged from stealth last November, announcing a $7.5 million seed round led by CRV with participation from Databricks Ventures, Thomvest Ventures, and PrimeSet. The investment valued the startup at $33 million, according to PitchBook.

Elastic, which went public in 2018, is best known for Elasticsearch, a search and analytics engine for storing, searching, analyzing, and monitoring large volumes of data in near real time. Its observability software, which helps engineers monitor systems and detect security threats, could benefit from DeductiveAI's technology. The source said integrating DeductiveAI's AI into Elastic will enhance its observability platform, enabling customers to automatically monitor performance and resolve system failures in real time.

The acquisition reflects a broader trend of established tech companies acquiring AI-native startups to incorporate agentic technologies into their product suites. DeductiveAI operates in the fast-growing AI site reliability engineering (AI SRE) sector, where AI replaces manual debugging, allowing human SREs to focus on product development rather than constant issue resolution. While DeductiveAI reached roughly $1 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR), its growth lagged behind competitor Resolve AI, which was last valued at $1.5 billion.

Elastic and DeductiveAI did not respond to requests for comment.
