16-year-old seasonal worker dies in accident at grain processing plant in Eleja
A 16-year-old seasonal worker died today in an accident at the “Latraps” grain pre-processing complex in Eleja after being run over by a tractor during work. The circumstances are being investigated by relevant authorities.
A fatal accident occurred today at the grain pre-processing complex operated by the agricultural services cooperative “Latraps” in Eleja, resulting in the death of a seasonal worker, the company confirmed in a statement.
According to later reporting by the TV programme “Degpunktā,” the victim was a 16-year-old boy who was run over by a tractor while working. He died at the scene of the accident.
Investigation and company response
In its statement, “Latraps” said that the circumstances of the incident are currently being investigated by the relevant authorities. To allow emergency and investigative services to carry out their work without disruption, the company temporarily closed the Eleja grain pre-processing complex and pledged to provide all necessary information to assist the investigation.
“Latraps” board chairman Roberts Strīpnieks expressed condolences to the family, relatives and colleagues of the deceased, calling it a tragedy that should not have happened. He said the company would do everything possible to help clarify the circumstances of the accident and to support the victim's family.
