An electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz has completed a journey around the world lasting more than a year, covering over 92,000 kilometers and crossing 92 countries. The trip was driven by efficient-driving expert Rainer Zietlow, and upon returning to Hannover the vehicle was taken straight to the TÜV Nord inspection center.

Inspection confirms original condition

The purpose of the technical check was to verify that the exact same vehicle tested before departure was the one used throughout the round-the-world trip. The inspection showed that the key drivetrain components remain in their original condition.

Battery retains nearly full capacity

Particular attention was paid to how the long journey affected the vehicle's battery. After more than 92,000 kilometers and around 300 charging cycles, the battery's state of health (SoH) stands at 95.75%. This is considered a good result given that the trip took place under widely varying climate conditions and with inconsistent charging infrastructure across different countries.

At the same time, it is noted that this result applies to this specific vehicle and should not be taken as proof that all ID. Buzz batteries will be in the same condition after a comparable distance.

A new Guinness World Record

The driver, Rainer Zietlow, also achieved his own goal during the trip, now being listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for a new achievement — visiting the most countries in a fully electric vehicle.
