Elenger launches new battery park in Liepāja worth two million euros
Energy company Elenger has launched a new battery energy storage system in Liepāja, investing two million euros to expand its green energy infrastructure in Latvia.

Elenger, the largest private energy company in the Baltic and Finnish region, has brought online a new battery energy storage system (BESS) in Liepāja, built with a two-million-euro investment. The project expands the company's green energy storage portfolio and contributes to the stability of Latvia's energy system.
The new facility has a capacity of 4.5 megawatts and a storage capacity of 9 megawatt-hours. This is enough to supply electricity to roughly 1,100 households over a 24-hour period. The battery system operates alongside Elenger's solar power plant, allowing more efficient use of the solar energy generated and improving supply stability during periods of peak demand.
Elenger CEO Gints Brakovskis said the company has been consistently developing energy storage solutions in Latvia, viewing them as an essential part of a modern energy system. Last year the company launched a similarly sized BESS at its solar park in Nīca, and the new Liepāja project is described as the next logical step in its development strategy. According to Brakovskis, storage technologies allow electricity to be stored when production exceeds consumption and used during periods of higher demand or higher prices, helping to reduce price volatility and offer more predictable tariffs. At the same time, such systems reduce the risk of supply interruptions and increase the share of local renewable energy in the overall energy balance.
Elenger opened its first solar power plant in Latvia in Nīca in 2024 — a park of nearly 7,000 panels producing 4.5 gigawatt-hours of electricity per year — which last year was fitted with its first BESS unit. The company's solar energy production dates back to 2019, when it opened a solar park in Pärnu, Estonia, together with a partner company. Since then, Elenger has built dozens of solar parks across Estonia, and is now also developing a battery park in Tallinn with an 18 megawatt-hour storage capacity.
