Elenger secures natural gas supply for next heating season

Elenger's executive director in Latvia, Gints Brakovskis, says most of the natural gas needed for the upcoming heating season has already been delivered to the company this spring and summer through ports in Finland and Lithuania. Contracts have also been signed for the remaining volumes, meaning all Elenger customers can count on full supply next season.

Brakovskis notes that although European gas storage facilities are currently less full than usual, gas availability across Europe as well as in the Finnish and Baltic region remains sufficient. He explains that liquefied natural gas (LNG) deliveries from the United States to Europe continue to grow, and European terminals have enough capacity to receive these additional cargoes.

Storage bolsters security

Alongside regular deliveries to the Inkoo terminal in Finland and the Klaipeda terminal in Lithuania, the Incukalns underground gas storage facility in Latvia plays a significant role in strengthening regional energy security, serving as an important reserve for Baltic gas consumption. Elenger stores gas both at Incukalns and in underground storage facilities in Poland.

This year the company will deliver a total of 11 LNG cargoes to the Finnish and Baltic region — seven to the Inkoo port in Finland and four to the Klaipeda LNG terminal in Lithuania. Elenger sources its gas from suppliers in the United States and Norway; five of this year's planned cargoes will come from Norway, with the rest from the US.
