Elenger commissions €1.8 million battery storage system in Olaine
Energy company Elenger has commissioned a new battery energy storage system at its Olaine solar park, investing €1.8 million in the project. The addition brings Elenger's total green energy storage capacity in Latvia to 27 megawatt-hours.

Latvian energy company Elenger has put a new battery energy storage system (BESS) into operation at its solar power plant in Olaine, investing €1.8 million in the project. The new facility can store 9 megawatt-hours of electricity with a capacity of 4.5 megawatts.
Company head Gints Brakovskis said energy storage technology is essential for the growth of renewable energy, since solar and wind power generation depends heavily on weather conditions. Storage systems allow electricity to be stored when production exceeds consumption and prices are lower, then used when demand rises, helping to smooth out price fluctuations and ease strain on the power grid.
Total capacity grows
With the Olaine project, Elenger's total energy storage capacity in Latvia — including earlier BESS installations in Liepāja and Nīca — has reached 27 megawatt-hours, with a combined €5.8 million invested across the three projects. The company says this amount of energy could supply around 3,300 households for a day, or charge electric vehicles for a combined distance of up to 170,000 kilometres.
Solar park operating since last year
Elenger opened the Olaine solar plant in April 2025, investing €2.4 million in its construction. The park covers nine hectares and includes 7,056 solar panels. Since it began operating, the plant has generated 5,771 megawatt-hours of electricity. With the new BESS unit now added, the Olaine park has become a combined facility for both producing and storing renewable energy.
Elenger has been developing solar energy production since 2019, when it opened what was then the largest solar park complex in Estonia, in Pärnu. Since then the company has built dozens of solar parks across Estonia, along with two solar plants in Latvia, in Nīca and Olaine.
