Elon Musk and Right-Wing Backlash Against 'The Odyssey' Fails Miserably

For months, Elon Musk and right-leaning agitators on X have been fuming over Christopher Nolan's adaptation of "The Odyssey," denouncing it as "historically inaccurate." Their primary grievances included the casting of Lupita Nyong'o, who is Black, as Helen of Troy, and Elliot Page, a trans actor, as Sinon. Complaints also targeted "wokeness," Americanized dialogue, and misogyny toward scholar Emily Wilson's 2017 translation of Homer.

Calling for a boycott proved futile. "The Odyssey" opened to $264 million globally, heading for continued box office dominance and likely awards. Even conservative commentator Ben Shapiro, no fan of DEI, acknowledged it as a landmark achievement.

However, some critics refused to accept reality. An anonymous X account claimed the film was faking ticket sales by buying its own seats, citing unverified Reddit anecdotes of empty theaters. The logic behind Universal Pictures spending millions on such a ruse remained unclear.

Musk responded to a three-minute AI-generated clip featuring a white, British-accented cast, vowing that his Grok Imagine model would create a "historically accurate" full-length film by year's end. Yet Musk rarely meets his deadlines. Separately, AI studio Fountain 0 plans to release a similar project titled "Odyssey: The Fall."

Both misguided efforts miss the lesson from Nolan's success: practical filmmaking outperforms AI-generated "slop." Despite this, the aggrieved internet reactionaries are unlikely to admit they have lost touch with what audiences want.
