Latvian young athlete Emīlija Brauna claimed a silver medal in the long jump at the European U18 Athletics Championships held in Rieti, Italy, on Saturday. She achieved a personal best of 6.24 meters in the final.
Brauna's first attempt was invalid. She jumped 6.07 meters on her second attempt, improved by five centimeters on her third, and then reached 6.24 meters on her fourth attempt. Her last two attempts were also invalid. This result secured her second place. The champion was Czech athlete Kristina Zahorova with 6.47 meters, and Spanish jumper Gifta Okunrobo took bronze with 6.21 meters.
The European U18 Championships in Rieti will continue until July 19. Latvia is represented by 23 athletes competing in ten disciplines. The team leader is Ieva Misāne, supported by a large coaching staff including Agris Ķirsis, Aļona Fomenko, Artūrs Priževoits, and others.
The Latvian U18 team also includes athletes such as Ieva Malnača (100m, 200m), Anastasija Fomenko (100m hurdles, 200m), Alise Blaua (long jump, 100m hurdles), Elza Černuho (javelin throw), Laura Grieze Putniņa (shot put), among others.
