Andy Burnham to Become UK Prime Minister After Unopposed Labour Leadership Win
Andy Burnham will be elected unopposed as Labour leader on Friday and will replace Keir Starmer as British prime minister on Monday, following months of internal party turmoil.

Andy Burnham, the MP for Makerfield, is set to become the next leader of Britain's governing Labour Party on Friday at a special conference in London. He will be elected unopposed after no other Labour MP secured the required nominations. Burnham returned to parliament last month after serving nine years as the mayor of Greater Manchester.
An overwhelming majority of the parliamentary party endorsed Burnham's candidacy, which follows months of turmoil for the historically unpopular outgoing leader, Keir Starmer. Having failed twice before in his bids for the Labour leadership, Burnham will now enter Downing Street on Monday to become prime minister.
Burnham has spoken about rewiring the state and bringing hope back into politics. He now faces a significant polling deficit that Labour must overcome before the next general election, scheduled for 2029.
