Andros Townsend hit by pitch roller before Thai league match

Former England international Andros Townsend, 35, was involved in an unusual incident while warming up ahead of a Thai League 1 match on Saturday. The forward, who now plays for PT Prachuap, was preparing for the game in Pattani when a staff member appeared to lose control of a heavy pitch roller.

Townsend's left leg was briefly trapped underneath the vehicle, but he was not injured. He went on to come off the bench later in the match, which PT Prachuap won 3-0.

The former Tottenham, Luton and Crystal Palace forward, who earned 13 caps for England, responded to the incident with humour on Instagram. He referenced an earlier post in which he had compared a sunny away trip in Thailand to previous visits to Stoke City's Bet365 Stadium, known for its difficult conditions.

Townsend joked that it turned out playing away at Stoke "wasn't so bad after all," inviting followers to see footage of what had happened to him on the pitch.
