Engadget rounds up two weeks of tech reviews: Apple, Sonos and more

The tech industry's fall product season remains busy, with Engadget's editorial team reporting that it reviewed 15 different devices over the past two weeks, spanning brands from Apple to Sonos, Beats and DJI.

Apple's latest lineup

Early September, right after Labor Day, saw Apple release several new devices that have since reached store shelves. The iPhone 18 Pro models focus primarily on camera improvements, positioned as an option for those waiting for the future iPhone Duo. The Apple Watch Series 12 brings a range of updates, including more advanced health-tracking features and some audio tools that have drawn controversy — though those audio features are not yet available to users.

Both versions of the AirPods 5 now include active noise cancellation, and while the earbuds have improved, the review notes that only one model would really be necessary. The Mac mini and Mac Studio have received new chips, but both have also become more expensive.

Sonos' new releases

Earlier this month, Sonos announced new headphones and a new soundbar, alongside a revamped audio platform called Sonos 27. The Ace Ultra headphones are described as delivering on what the original Ace should have offered from the start — functioning as a full member of a Sonos audio system, a feature that already works well even in its early-access phase.

The Beam Ultra soundbar's key upgrade is its up-firing drivers, enabling genuine Dolby Atmos sound rather than merely simulating an overhead audio effect.
