The beginning of August traditionally marks one of the most important periods for farmers, as the grain threshing season gets underway. In fields where the grain has already ripened, combine harvesters have been working intensively this week.

One of the farms where harvesting has already started is “Labārti” in Ērģeme parish. The farm is currently threshing winter wheat, and early signs suggest this year’s harvest could be encouraging — yield forecasts are being described as promising.

The start of the threshing season typically signals that other farms across Latvia will also ramp up fieldwork in the coming days and weeks, as weather conditions and grain ripeness determine when machinery can head into the fields.
