EU greenlights €6.1bn for Ukrainian drones and PAC-3 missiles, next €4.3bn tranche coming

The European Commission approved €6.1 billion in funding for Ukraine on 11 September, allocated as part of the broader €90 billion loan programme supporting the country.

The money is designated for purchasing drones and PAC-3 interceptor missiles, which are used with Patriot air defence systems. This kind of equipment remains critical for Ukraine as it continues to face Russian aerial attacks.

Next tranche ahead

Alongside this approval, the Commission is preparing to disburse a further €4.3 billion tranche, also drawn from the same large-scale loan mechanism established to support Ukraine.

The overall €90 billion programme is intended to provide Ukraine with sustained financial and military backing, helping the country maintain its defence against Russian aggression and reinforce its air defence capabilities.
