EU Foreign Ministers Approve 22nd Russia Sanctions Package Adding About 1,600 Names
European Union foreign ministers have approved a 22nd package of sanctions against Russia, adding roughly 1,600 legal entities and individuals to the sanctions list. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas called it the largest single expansion of the list since the full-scale war began.
Foreign ministers of the European Union approved the bloc's 22nd package of sanctions against Russia on 12 October, part of the EU's response to Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. The package adds about 1,600 legal entities and individuals to the sanctions list.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said it is the largest single expansion of the list since the full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine began.
Focus on ballistic missiles
According to Kallas, more than half of the newly listed individuals and entities are tied to the production of ballistic missiles. She said the measures make it significantly harder, slower and more expensive for Russia to produce the weapons it uses to kill Ukrainians.
Who will be affected
The investigative project Systema reported earlier that organizations in Russia's military-industrial complex, together with their executives and employees, would face sanctions under the 22nd package. For some of these organizations the restrictions are not new, but are being expanded.
The source does not say when the package is due to take effect or describe any other elements beyond the additions to the list.
