EU sanctions 10 Russian judges and prosecutors over opposition party Yabloko's exclusion from elections
The European Union has imposed sanctions on 10 Russian officials involved in disqualifying opposition party Yabloko from State Duma elections. A North Korean children's camp was also added to the sanctions list.
The European Union has expanded its sanctions list to include 10 Russian judges, prosecution service staff, and other officials involved in disqualifying the Yabloko Party's federal candidate list from the State Duma elections.
Among those sanctioned are three judges on Russia's Supreme Court — Vyacheslav Kirillov, Igor Zinchenko, and Denis Tyutin. Sanctions were also imposed on Sergei Sakharov, who heads a department within the legal directorate of Russia's Central Election Commission that handles election disputes and represents the commission in court.
Sanctions also target deportation of Ukrainian children
Separately, the EU expanded its sanctions list to include people and organizations linked to the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children and their forced assimilation, indoctrination, and militarized education. Those newly added include Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, the Moscow Tourism Committee, the Sputnik children's recreation complex, the Solnechny Bereg children's center, the Okean All-Russian Children's Center, and the Songdowon International Children's Camp in North Korea.
The move reflects the EU's continued pressure on Russia, both over the suppression of domestic political opposition and over allegations of forcibly relocating Ukrainian children during the war.
