European Union lawmakers are pressing football authorities for action following the Trump-Infantino red card controversy. The row over a suspended one-match ban for Folarin Balogun has sparked new calls for an investigation by European legislators. MEP Barry Andrews, a leading FIFA critic, intensified his attack, calling the world football governing body “profoundly corrupt” after a U-turn on the American star’s suspension.

Separately, an EU watchdog foiled a Chinese counterfeit condom operation. A counterfeit exporter had distributed over 200,000 condoms across Europe, leading to the intervention of EU customs officials.

In another development, Rome brushed off a “restraining order” meme by U.S. President Donald Trump targeting Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani told local media that “transatlantic relations go far beyond individual statements.” These incidents highlight ongoing tensions and regulatory challenges facing the European Union on multiple fronts.
