EU rejects Kremlin fake claim about mobilising women in Ukraine
European Commissioner for Defence Andrius Kubilius dismissed a Russian intelligence claim that the EU demands Ukraine mobilise women, calling it a Kremlin fake.
European Commissioner for Defence Andrius Kubilius on Friday rejected a claim spread by Russia's foreign intelligence service alleging that the European Union was demanding Ukraine begin mobilising women.
Responding to reporters' questions, Kubilius said he had no such information and that it would be strange for Europe to try to tell Ukrainians how to conduct mobilisation, including mobilisation of women. He added that he was not surprised the claim originated from the Kremlin.
What happened earlier
A day earlier, Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service claimed without any evidence that the European Commission was demanding Kyiv start mobilising women. The Russian agency also attributed to EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas remarks suggesting this would be a step in the right direction.
It was previously reported that the number of men among refugees from Ukraine in Germany rose sharply over the past year. Meanwhile, the EU clarified that its decision on granting temporary protection to Ukrainians applies equally to all Ukrainians, without exceptions for men of conscription age.
