EU officially opens first negotiation cluster with Moldova
The European Union and Moldova held an intergovernmental conference on June 15 in Luxembourg, officially launching accession negotiations under the first cluster.

First step toward EU membership
On June 15, an EU-Moldova intergovernmental conference took place in Luxembourg, officially opening negotiations on the first cluster. The event followed a similar conference with Ukraine, where the EU also opened talks. Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu led the government delegation in person.
Regional perspectives and Moldova's stance
Cyprus's Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Rauna, speaking on behalf of the Cypriot presidency of the EU Council, emphasized that Moldova's EU accession is particularly important for Cyprus because Cyprus, like Moldova, has occupied territories, albeit without an active war. Prime Minister Munteanu noted that Moldovan citizens rarely mention specific clusters, but in all conversations, they express that Moldova is part of Europe.
