A new restriction has come into force across the European Union today, halting the import of meat and other products of animal origin from Brazil. The ban applies to the entire EU territory and took effect immediately.

Concerns over antibiotics and standards

The decision is linked to concerns about the use of antibiotics in animal farming in Brazil, as well as instances where certain products fail to meet the requirements set by the European Union. EU authorities consider that the current situation poses a risk incompatible with the bloc's food safety standards.

As a result, the supply of both meat and other animal-derived products from Brazil to EU member states has been completely suspended until the situation is clarified or improved.
