Satellites are increasingly used for communication and other purposes, but their growing numbers are raising concerns among scientists. According to a new study by the European Southern Observatory (ESO), an excessive amount of satellites could seriously impede the work of specialists in various fields, especially astronomers. Reflected sunlight from satellites and their movement across the sky create additional noise in telescope data, making it harder to observe celestial objects. The researchers warn that if current trends continue, astronomical observations could become significantly more challenging. While satellites provide important benefits to society, their impact on science must be carefully assessed.
