Host Ulyana Kuzmina examines the role peat plays in Estonia's economy today and the ecological consequences left behind by its extraction. One of the episode's central questions is why Estonian peat is in demand around the world.
The programme also looks at what happens to extraction sites once peat production there ends. In addition, the episode covers recent research that is changing understanding of how much carbon extraction actually releases into the atmosphere.
