Exit poll: Apvienotais saraksts takes convincing lead in 15th Saeima election

An exit poll conducted at polling stations shows the Apvienotais saraksts party winning convincingly in Latvia's 15th Saeima election. Experts caution that even a small deviation from the final results could prove decisive for several parties.

An exit poll carried out on election day for Latvia's 15th Saeima shows the Apvienotais saraksts (United List) party with a convincing lead. The result has prompted political observers to begin assessing, already on election night, how closely these figures might match the actual vote count and which parties stand to benefit or lose out once final results are known.

Past elections suggest the poll could be fairly accurate

Drawing on experience from the 2018 and 2022 Saeima elections, most parties' exit poll figures differed from the official results by roughly one percentage point. This track record gives reason to expect that this election's final outcome will likely resemble the exit poll data fairly closely.

Even a small gap could have major consequences

However, even a seemingly minor discrepancy between the exit poll and the actual results can carry dramatic consequences for individual parties. While the overall picture pointing to Apvienotais saraksts as the winner appears clear, the standing of several other parties may still shift once official vote-counting results are compiled.

Election night is therefore expected to remain tense for a number of political forces, whose fate could hinge on exactly the small percentage-point differences that typically separate exit poll estimates from the real vote.
