Formula 2 unveils new car with design closer to F1
The Formula 2 championship has presented its next-generation car, redesigned to resemble Formula 1 machines more closely while keeping the current chassis to control costs. The new car features reworked wings and a built-in starter.
Formula 2 has revealed its new car, with an appearance brought closer to that of Formula 1 machines. The most notable visual change is a redesign of the front and rear wings, giving the car a sharper, more F1-like silhouette.
One of the more practical additions is a starter motor built into the cockpit, allowing drivers to restart the engine themselves without external assistance. This could help keep races running more smoothly when a car stalls on track.
Chassis and technical partners unchanged
To keep costs under control, organisers decided to retain the current Dallara chassis rather than developing a new one. The series will also continue working with its existing technical partners, using Aramco sustainable fuel and Pirelli tyres.
F1 and F2 bosses comment
F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenikali said Formula 2 remains the key stepping stone for the next generation of F1 drivers, where the best young talents compete side by side and build the skills needed to reach the top of motorsport. He said the new car combines innovation and safety while creating closer racing and maintaining a level playing field for drivers to show their abilities.
F2 championship CEO Bruno Michel explained that the primary goal in developing the new car was to keep it an ideal tool for preparing drivers for F1. Working with the FIA, the series chose to keep the existing chassis and focus on redesigning the front and rear wings, which keeps costs under control while bringing the design closer to F1's look and improving F2's ability to deliver close racing.
