Farage set to face questions as party donations scandal deepens

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage is due to appear on Laura Kuenssberg's Sunday politics programme at 9am, where he is expected to face further questions about an undercover investigation aired by Channel 4 News. The broadcast showed two of his senior aides appearing to discuss how to get around electoral rules on donations from foreign sources.

Accepting donations from a foreign company, including in-kind contributions such as polling, could amount to a criminal offence, and the party has already been reported to police.

The two aides involved, senior adviser Dan Jukes and Reform's head of policy James Orr, have stood down from their duties while an internal party investigation takes place.

Pressure on Farage himself

Farage remains under separate scrutiny over another clip in which he was heard saying "it's all above board." This followed a reporter, posing as the UK-based son of a wealthy US donor, telling Farage he had already been in discussions with Jukes and Orr. The undercover reporter explained that he would be registered as the donor, while the money would actually come from his father and become available once those conversations concluded.

Speaking to the BBC on Saturday at Reform UK's conference in Birmingham, Farage dismissed claims of wrongdoing, saying "I'm not a compliance officer" and "I frankly wasn't even listening," referring to his meeting with the undercover reporters in Clacton.

Farage has described the investigation, conducted by Verbatim Investigations, an organisation founded by journalists from the Centre for Climate Reporting, as another example of an establishment stitch-up, denying any wrongdoing. Orr and Jukes have likewise denied any impropriety.
