FBK SĀC Edges Ķekava 7:5 in High-Scoring Floorball Thriller
In Latvia's men's floorball top league, Ādaži-based FBK SĀC defeated Ķekava/RB&B 7:5 at home in a match marked by several lead changes and an own goal.
In an Elvi Virsliga men's floorball match in Ādaži, FBK SĀC hosted Ķekava/RB&B and won a high-scoring contest 7:5 (2:1; 1:0; 4:4).
The two sides entered the game in different form: SĀC had played just one match so far, a 3:1 away win over Lielvārde/Unihoc, while Ķekava suffered their second straight loss after a defeat in Talsi and a blown lead at home against Rubene.
The visitors started better, with Valters Priede scoring on a counterattack in the ninth minute. SĀC equalized on a power play through Dēvids Osītis, and moments after play resumed Niks Cekarevs put the hosts ahead by converting a rebound after Rūdolfs Jānis Gremze hit the post — the first period ended 2:1.
In the second period SĀC scored again on the man advantage, as Ralfs Stratans finished an unusual goal off a long pass from Alvis Dāle, poking the ball through his own legs into the net. SĀC also killed off a penalty successfully, keeping a perfect record shorthanded.
The third period turned into a goal-scoring frenzy. Ķekava captain Klāvs Ziedonis-Jansons pulled one back, but Cekarevs quickly restored the two-goal gap. Ziedonis-Jansons then scored his second goal assisted by Endijs Umberts Barruss, before Alvis Dāle extended the lead again off a pass from Kristers Orlovs from behind the net. Toms Ķeirāns missed a penalty shot against goalkeeper Emīls Zīverts but scored a regular goal moments later. With two and a half minutes left, SĀC conceded an own goal when Artis Saldatenoks inadvertently deflected a pass from Rūdolfs Dilbergs into his own net, tying it 5:5. Eight seconds before the end of regulation, Orlovs beat Ķekava goalkeeper Kirils Namļinskis with a deke to put SĀC back in front, and with Ķekava playing without a goalkeeper in the closing seconds, Gremze sealed the 7:5 win with an empty-net goal.
SĀC's top scorers were Cekarevs (2+1), Stratans (1+1) and Dāle (1+1), while Barruss (0+3) and Ziedonis-Jansons (2+0) led Ķekava.
The win gives SĀC a 2-0 start to the season, and the team has yet to concede a goal in any second period. Their power-play conversion stands at 62.5%, and they remain perfect on the penalty kill. In the standings, SĀC sit third with six points from two games, while Ķekava/RB&B remain pointless after three matches.
