FCC Plans to Ban Companies Selling DJI Products Under Other Brands

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) wants to expand its ban to include companies suspected of selling rebranded and re-shelled versions of DJI drones and cameras. Specifically, the agency plans to prohibit the importation and marketing of products from Cogito, Fikaxo, Lyno Dynamics, Skyhigh Tech, Spatial Hover, SZ Knowact, WaveGo, Xtra, and XAG, stating that they "pose an unacceptable risk" to US national security.

A week ago, the FCC had only proposed fining these companies $25,000 for evading the agency's official inquiries into whether they are marketing products under the country's Covered List. In December 2025, the commission added all new foreign-made drones and components to that list, which prohibits import and sale in the US due to national security concerns. DJI, perhaps the most prominent company affected, expressed disappointment, maintaining that concerns about its data security are unfounded and reflect protectionism contrary to open market principles.

This proposal marks the first time the FCC is wielding its power, granted in October 2025, to retroactively ban devices from companies on the Covered List. The ban includes "certain previously authorized equipment" suspected of being re-shelled versions of old DJI products. The FCC is seeking public comments with "specific evidence" over the next 30 days regarding its conclusion that the listed companies are selling rebranded DJI drones and cameras.
