Turkish club Fenerbahce have booked their place in the Champions League league phase after overcoming French side Olympique Lyonnais in a qualifying tie.

The decisive goals came from Vedat Muriqi and Archie Brown, whose strikes proved enough to see the Istanbul side through to the next stage of Europe's premier club competition.

The result ends an 18-year wait for Fenerbahce, who had not featured in the tournament's main phase since their last appearance almost two decades ago.

Qualifying for the league stage represents a significant achievement for Turkish football, giving one of the country's leading clubs another opportunity to compete against Europe's elite teams and push for progression further into the competition.
