Ferrari and Racing Bulls conducted two days of testing at Imola aimed not at comparing lap times but at collecting structured data on experimental tyres whose specifications the teams did not fully know in advance.
Ferrari's programme
On Tuesday, Ferrari's car was shared by Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, who together covered more than 600 kilometres. On Wednesday, Antonio Giovinazzi took over, focusing on the C3 compound and completing 135 laps, roughly 660 kilometres, combining qualifying simulations with longer runs.
Racing Bulls splits duties
Racing Bulls divided its Wednesday programme between Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad. Lawson completed 65 laps testing the C4 compound across shorter and longer runs, while Lindblad added a further 73 laps in the afternoon using the C3 and C5 compounds. His lap time of 1:18.454 was the fastest of the day.
What's next
The collected data will help Pirelli select the most suitable tyre constructions and compounds for next season. Further testing is scheduled for mid-October in Magny-Cours, where the circuit's artificial watering system will allow the teams to focus specifically on developing wet-weather tyres.
