Ferrari has taken full responsibility for Lewis Hamilton's penalty, acknowledging that it was their mistake. Team principal Fred Vasseur said after the session: "We told him, but way too late. If there is a mistake, it's our mistake."

Hamilton himself explained that he had no idea about the competitor's presence on track. "They literally told me when he was right behind me, so I had no clue he was coming. I thought everyone had gone behind me – I was the first one out, so I thought everyone had finished their lap. So I was confused, because it obviously wasn't intentional," the driver stated.

The stewards confirmed that Hamilton was not informed in time. Their report said: "The driver of car No. 44 explained that he had just completed his fast lap and did not receive a team radio message about the approaching car No. 81 until it was close. He also noted that due to his car's position on track, car No. 81 was not visible in his mirrors."
