After the World Cup final tournament featured 48 teams for the first time, FIFA intends to evaluate the possibility of further expansion. The idea, proposed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, has drawn strong criticism from several influential figures in the sport due to rising costs and increased physical strain on players.

Critics argue that expanding the tournament would boost organizational expenses and add to the already congested player calendar. While FIFA has not yet made a decision, opposition to the 64-team format continues to mount, casting doubt on its implementation in the near future.
