FIFA opens disciplinary proceedings against Argentina
FIFA has launched disciplinary proceedings against the Argentina national team for their behavior after losing to Spain in the World Cup final and throughout the tournament.
FIFA has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Argentina following their conduct after the World Cup final loss to Spain. The world governing body appointed a disciplinary and ethics prosecutor to assess incidents that occurred after the final whistle at the New York New Jersey Stadium, where several Argentina players and backroom staff were involved in altercations with Spain players after a 1-0 defeat in July.
On the prosecutor's recommendation, FIFA will investigate Argentina players Nahuel Molina (two counts) and Leandro Paredes (three counts), as well as assistant coach Roberto Ayala (one count) for alleged assault under Article 14 of FIFA's disciplinary code. Molina also faces one count of alleged unsporting behavior under the same article, while teammate Thiago Almada and Spain midfielder Gavi are accused of the same breach.
Under FIFA's disciplinary code, players and officials face at least a one-match suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct and at least three matches for assault. The proceedings are officially opened for investigation.
