Phoenix Suns Sign Dillon Brooks to $73 Million Extension

The Phoenix Suns have decided to keep forward Dillon Brooks on a long-term basis, agreeing to a contract extension worth $73 million. The new deal with the 30-year-old Canadian will run through the 2029-30 season.

Brooks had the best season of his nine-year NBA career last year, averaging 20.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. His performance helped the Suns secure 45 wins and a playoff berth.

The team's management considers Brooks one of the cornerstones of the franchise's culture. During the summer, Phoenix not only extended Brooks' contract but also brought in Colin Gillespie, Mark Williams, Jordan Goodwin, Miles Bridges, and Luke Kennard, thus preserving the core of the roster.

Brooks arrived in Phoenix last summer as part of the Kevin Durant trade from the Houston Rockets. Although he missed 18 games due to a left hand fracture, he returned at the end of the season and averaged 26 points in the first round of the playoffs against the Oklahoma City Thunder, shooting 43.8% from three-point range. Despite his efforts, the Suns lost the series 0-4.

Last season, the Suns' defense showed significant improvement, climbing from 27th to ninth in the league. The club believes that Brooks' aggressive defensive play was one of the main reasons for this progress.
