Five-time NBA champion defends LeBron's choice: "He doesn't chase rings, rings follow him"
Derek Fisher, a five-time NBA champion, defended LeBron James after his move to the Philadelphia 76ers, refuting criticism that James is ring-chasing.
LeBron James left the Los Angeles Lakers this summer and after a lengthy decision-making process chose to join the Philadelphia 76ers. He signed a two-year contract with a player option, receiving the veteran's minimum salary.
The move drew mixed reactions. Several analysts, including Charles Barkley, criticized the decision, suggesting that James once again stacked his team with high-level players and was chasing a championship ring.
However, five-time NBA champion Derek Fisher took a different stance. He argued that LeBron is the reason teams win titles, not the other way around. "You don't chase rings when you are the guy who makes them," Fisher said. He referenced NBA history, citing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as an example of a player who had rings follow him wherever he went.
James averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game last season with the Lakers.
