Latvia's Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs has shared data on the longest names recorded in the country's Population Register. The longest entry contains 41 letters spread across four names, and belongs to a foreign national registered as Mihindukulasuriya Patabadige Ashara Krishani.
The Population Register includes not only Latvian citizens and non-citizens but also foreigners, including those who have obtained a residence permit in Latvia, an EU citizen's registration certificate, or an EU citizen's permanent residence certificate.
Longest single names
Among people registered with only a single name, the longest examples also belong to foreign nationals. The register lists the names Navaneethakrishkan and Anandhapadmanabhan, each containing 18 letters.
Records among ethnic Latvians
Among residents of Latvian ethnicity, the longest registered name is Žanete Irēna Saulstarīte, totaling 22 letters. The longest single name written in the Latvian alphabet is Sniegbaltīte, which has 12 letters.
