Fury vs Joshua super-fight edges toward December date in Cardiff
The long-awaited super-fight between British heavyweights Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua looks increasingly likely to take place in December in Cardiff, Wales. Teams have spent months negotiating the venue.
Organizing the long-anticipated bout between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua has proven difficult, with both boxers' teams spending several months trying to agree on a venue.
Under Joshua's contract, the fight was required to take place in Britain, but organizers had been pushing to hold it in the United States instead. That disagreement dragged out negotiations over the fight, which was originally planned for November, delaying the timeline.
In the meantime, Fury claimed that Joshua had pulled out of the fight and turned his attention to challenging Oleksandr Usyk instead. At one point it appeared the bout could be staged in the US, with New York mentioned as a possible location, but a UK fight in December has now become the more likely scenario.
Cardiff emerges as favorite
The Welsh capital Cardiff has become the leading candidate to host the fight, with Principality Stadium — which holds just under 74,000 spectators — the likely venue.
Should the fight go ahead there, it could start around 1:00 a.m. UK time, which would correspond to 3:00 a.m. in Latvia.
Joshua has already fought twice at that stadium, defeating Carlos Takam there in 2017 and Joseph Parker in 2018.
