Flutist Lorna McGhee Leaves Boston Symphony Orchestra After Andris Nelsons' Dismissal
Scottish flutist Lorna McGhee, who joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra two years ago, is leaving after conductor Andris Nelsons was removed from his post. Unconfirmed reports say she is moving to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Scottish flute virtuoso Lorna McGhee, principal flute of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the United States, is leaving the ensemble. The move comes after Latvian conductor Andris Nelsons was dismissed from his post leading the orchestra. The news was reported by SlippedDisc, a classical music news portal, whose author is Norman Lebrecht.
First to depart
According to SlippedDisc, McGhee is the first section principal of the orchestra to leave following Nelsons' removal. The portal says she joined the Boston orchestra two years ago precisely because Nelsons was its leader.
Possible move to Chicago
Discussions on an online forum for flutists suggest that McGhee will become principal flute of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Neither orchestra has confirmed this information so far.
McGhee recently appeared in a warm farewell photograph with Nelsons, her favoured maestro. SlippedDisc has so far been unable to reach her for comment.
