Fleetwood in the hunt as Lee sets the pace at Tour Championship
Australia's Min Woo Lee fired a bogey-free 62 to lead the Tour Championship in Atlanta after round one, while defending champion Tommy Fleetwood's 66 keeps him in contention.
Min Woo Lee produced the standout performance of the opening round at the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta, carding a bogey-free 62 to move eight under par and take a two-shot lead.
The Australian, who won the Scottish Open last month but finished near the bottom of the field at last week's BMW Championship, played much of the day without a partner after JJ Spaun withdrew injured following four holes. Lee said the situation felt strange initially, forcing him to slow his pace so as not to catch the group ahead, but it ultimately worked in his favour.
Norway's Viktor Hovland, the 2023 champion, sits two shots back alongside Americans Collin Morikawa and Chris Gotterup.
Defending champion Tommy Fleetwood of England shot a four-under 66 to remain in the mix, level with Matt Fitzpatrick and Ryan Fox on four under.
World number one Scottie Scheffler closed his round with a birdie on the 18th to finish five under, while Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, chasing a record fourth FedEx Cup title, had an uneven start, bogeying two of his first four holes before recovering on the back nine to card a 68.
Scotland's Robert MacIntyre sits three under, highlighted by a holed eagle putt of more than 30 feet on the sixth hole. England's Justin Rose and Alex Fitzpatrick both posted 68s, on a day when none of the 29 players who completed their rounds shot over par.
The champion crowned on Sunday will claim the FedEx Cup along with a $10m (£7.4m) prize.
