In the Latvian men's floorball top league (Elvi floorball virslīga), Cēsis "Lekrings" and Valmiera club "FBK Valmiera" play their first match of the season tonight at 20:00 at the Cēsis Sports Complex. The hosts are second in the table with 12 points and could move to first place with a win, although they would have played two games more than current leaders "Masters Ulbroka/LU".

Last year the away team won all three meetings between the clubs. Valmiera won in Cēsis (7:5 and 5:1), while "Lekrings" won in Valmiera 8:7 in overtime.

Cēsis started the season with a defeat

After losing at the start of the season, "Lekrings" has taken points in each of the next five games: 6:5 against Talsi, 5:4 in overtime in Kocēni and 8:2 against "Kurši". In Ķekava the team lost 3:4 in overtime, and in its latest game won 7:3 away to "Lielvārde/Unihoc". In first periods, the Cēsis side's record is 4-1-1 with a goal difference of 9:3.

Forward Edgars Puriņš is in form: his nine-game scoring streak ended in Lielvārde, but he made an assist and has recorded points in 10 consecutive games. His personal record is 12 such games. Kevins Šmits, who once played for "FBK Valmiera", has scored points in the last five games and, with 11 (6+5) points, shares the lead in the team's scoring. Bruno Beķeris has scored in each of the last four games.

Valmiera on a three-game winning run

"FBK Valmiera" began the season with three defeats but has since won three times: 8:3 away to FBK SĀC, 3:2 in overtime against Talsi and 7:6 against Liepāja. Valmiera has not yet led after a first period; its record is 0-4-2 with a goal difference of 5:8.

Oskars Siliņš has scored in four games in a row, including the overtime winner 39 seconds into extra time against "Kurši". Experienced player Ričards Eglītis has also been productive in the last four matches.

The match officials are referees Pēteris Freimanis and Vitālijs Ksenzovs.
