Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice admitted after the game against the Los Angeles Kings that he does not yet know how serious forward Brad Marchand's injury is. Florida won the game 2-1.

How the injury happened

Marchand was hurt in the final minute of the second period. He was driving toward the opposing net, but after a collision with Brent Clark he fell and twisted his left knee. He left the ice with help from teammates and went straight to the locker room.

According to Maurice, doctors will look at Marchand on Thursday. The team returns home that day after its road trip through California, and the veteran will then undergo more thorough examinations. Eero Luostarinen, who played through to the end of the game, is reportedly fine.

A difficult start to the season

Marchand is 38 years old. Injuries made the end of last season ragged for him, and he missed the start of the new campaign. The game against the Kings was Florida's fourth of the season, but only Marchand's second.

He was traded from the Boston Bruins in spring 2025 and helped Florida win the Stanley Cup, scoring ten goals and adding ten assists in 23 playoff games. Last season, Marchand collected 54 points in 52 games.

Other absences

The Panthers are already without captain Aleksander Barkov, who was injured in the game against the San Jose Sharks. He will be out for six to eight weeks.
