Fokerots/Pļaviņš advance to Rio Elite16 round of 16 with third straight win
Latvian beach volleyball pair Mārtiņš Pļaviņš and Kristians Fokerots secured their third victory at the Rio de Janeiro Elite16 tournament and a spot in the round of 16.
Latvian beach volleyball pair Mārtiņš Pļaviņš and Kristians Fokerots continued their winning streak at the Beach Pro Tour Elite16 tournament in Rio de Janeiro on Friday, securing a third victory in as many matches and a place in the round of 16.
In the final group B match, the second-seeded Latvians defeated Australians Thomas Hodges and Ben Hood, the 11th seeds who had advanced from qualifying, 2-1 (17:21, 21:17, 15:13). The result gave the Latvian duo first place in the group.
Earlier in the group stage, Pļaviņš/Fokerots beat Brazil's Lucas Sampaio and João Pedro (23rd seeds) 2-0 (21:12, 21:17) and Italy's Samuele Cottafava and Gianluca dal Corso (14th seeds) 2-0 (21:17, 38:36). They have already collected 380 world ranking points at the tournament.
In the beach volleyball tour ranking system, Elite16 events are the top tier, followed by Challenge and Futures tournaments.
