Ford developing cheaper electric pickup Fathom, arriving in 2027

Ford is preparing to expand its electric pickup lineup with a new model called Fathom. Details have appeared on the automaker's website, though only in brief summary form so far. A prototype was also recently spotted on the streets of Las Vegas, but its actual design remains carefully hidden under camouflage wrapping.
Smaller and more affordable than the F-150
Unlike the large and expensive F-150, Fathom is designed to be a more compact and affordable option, roughly the size of the Ford Ranger. With this approach, Ford hopes to attract buyers who want a practical electric pickup without paying for a large, costly American-style truck.
A new platform to cut costs
The model will be built on Ford's new Universal EV platform, developed specifically to significantly reduce electric vehicle production costs and simplify their construction. Ford plans to price Fathom at around $30,000, with production set to begin in 2027.
A response to Chinese competition
