Form has launched the Smart Swim 2 LT, a more affordable version of its swimming goggles with a built-in heads-up display. While the device offers core features for free, some advanced capabilities require a paid subscription.

For open-water swimming, the free data is limited to distance and stroke rate. More precise tracking, such as pacing, can be obtained by pairing the goggles with an Apple Watch or Garmin watch, which sends data to the display.

A notable free feature is SwimStraight, previously behind a premium paywall. It uses the built-in compass to help swimmers maintain a straight line, though it requires an awkward calibration process.

The premium subscription costs $9.99 per month or $99 per year. It unlocks custom workout creation, preset training plans, and the HeadCoach feature. HeadCoach scores each swim and recommends drills to improve technique. For example, it can suggest a drill to correct head pitch, showing a dot on the display that the swimmer must keep above a line.

The reviewer believes these goggles are genuinely innovative and recommends them to fellow swimmers. However, the recurring subscription cost may put them out of reach for many. For those willing to invest, the goggles effectively track pool and open-water swims, visualize metrics, and help improve form.
