Fotografiska to Open Doors in Shenzhen, China This Autumn
The international photography center Fotografiska will open its second China location in Shenzhen on October 1, expanding its Asian presence.

The Fotografiska Center for Photography will open in Shenzhen, China, on October 1 this year, becoming the network's second branch in China after Shanghai. Like other Fotografiska locations, the new center will feature exhibition halls, public event spaces, a restaurant, and a design store. It will be open year-round, dedicated to photography, visual arts, and contemporary visual culture.
Fotografiska Board Chairman Yoram Roth noted that China is a country where the cultural environment is developing most rapidly. The company's long-term goal is to open at least two museums in the region, and Shenzhen is a natural next step after Shanghai. Roth emphasized that experience in Shanghai has helped better understand local audiences, partners, and the cultural landscape, and this knowledge will be used in launching the museum in Shenzhen.
The first visitors will be presented with an exhibition titled "Toiletpaper" by Italian artists Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari, a new video work by German artist Michael Najjar, a solo exhibition by Chinese artist Shi Guowei, as well as works by finalists of the international Prix Pictet award.
Margit Aasmäe, Executive Director and Co-founder of Fotografiska Tallinn, highlighted that this week marks the seventh anniversary of Fotografiska in Tallinn, and each new museum opening in the world reminds how significant the role of Tallinn's branch is as the first Fotografiska center outside Stockholm.
Founded in Stockholm in 2010, Fotografiska has expanded to Tallinn, Berlin, and Shanghai. In the coming years, a Fotografiska in Oslo is also planned.
