Photographer captures dogs with real jobs around the world

Photographer John Fabiano travelled around the world to document dogs that hold specific jobs and responsibilities. The result is a photo series, published as a gallery, showcasing different forms of canine labour across various countries and cultures.

Among the subjects are truffle-hunting dogs in Italy, animals trained to use their sense of smell to locate the prized fungi hidden underground. Fabiano also photographed sled dogs in Greenland, which have traditionally been used for transport in harsh northern conditions and continue to play an important role in local communities' daily lives.

One standout example is a dog named Perla, who works as a hotel receptionist in Cologne, Germany. This case illustrates how dogs are increasingly being incorporated into the service industry, creating an unusual yet welcoming environment for guests.

Fabiano's series brings together a range of examples that highlight the diverse roles dogs play in society, from traditional rural and northern practices to more modern service-industry settings. The project has been published as a visual story emphasising each dog's unique role and the environment in which it works.
