Framework Laptop 13 Pro – a technological gem marred by an $800 price hike

The Framework Laptop 13 Pro earns high praise for its modular design, excellent touchscreen, and performance, but due to soaring memory prices ("RAMageddon"), its price jumped by $800 to $3,099.

The latest laptop from Framework, the Laptop 13 Pro, has received rave reviews from The Verge, but its price has skyrocketed from an originally planned $2,299 to $3,099 due to a memory price surge dubbed "RAMageddon." The $800 increase happened before the device reached a single customer.

The laptop is lauded for its premium build quality, a bright 13.5-inch 120Hz IPS touchscreen with 3:2 aspect ratio and 700 nits of brightness, and an exceptional haptic trackpad that rivals Apple's. It is powered by an Intel Core Ultra X7 358H processor with LPCAMM2 memory, delivering strong performance and impressive battery life – about 10.5 hours under heavy use.

While the Laptop 13 Pro is considered the most complete Framework model yet, it has its flaws. The speakers are rated as mediocre, and the chassis gets very hot under full load. However, the modular design allows users to replace individual components – such as the mainboard or screen – without buying a whole new laptop.

The reviewer notes that despite the high price, the Laptop 13 Pro is one of his favorite laptops, but the memory price crisis raises concerns about the long-term viability of niche products like this.
