Framework has announced a "major and unfortunate" pricing update for its upcoming premium laptop, the Laptop 13 Pro, which also affects customers who have already placed preorders. The company received updated cost estimates from its memory supplier that are "more than double that of the prior inventory."

According to Framework, while the company has enough LPCAMM2 memory modules on hand to cover all existing preorders, the mix of 64GB, 32GB, and 16GB modules does not match all preorder configurations. As a result, some customers are being notified that the memory configuration (and consequently, the price) on their Laptop 13 Pro order has been updated.

Framework has apologized for the changes and is offering cancellations with full deposit refunds for customers who are unhappy with their new configuration. The available configurations and pricing for new orders on Framework's website have also been adjusted. The prebuilt option with an Intel Core Ultra 5 325, 16GB of memory, and 512GB of storage now starts at $1,599 — $100 more than its initial announcement.

Framework has been one of the most transparent companies about the impact of the ongoing RAM crisis, but this will understandably be a blow for customers who were excited about their Laptop 13 Pro preorders.
