France 24 Show Examines US Midterm Fallout and Coordination of European Protests
A France 24 programme reviews the Republican Party's worst election result since the 1970s and asks whether Europe's national protest movements are becoming a coordinated one.
A special edition of "The World This Week", the weekly review programme on the French international news channel France 24, was published on 6 November. It focuses on the results of the US midterm elections and asks whether protests under way across Europe are merging into a continent-wide movement.
The US midterm aftermath
Presenter Gavin Lee is joined by four international correspondents to assess what the programme describes as the Republican Party's worst election result since the 1970s, when the party suffered heavy losses after the Watergate scandal. The discussion asks whether the MAGA movement, which backs Donald Trump, has passed its peak, what will change in the United States and abroad, and who ends the week as frontrunner for the 2028 presidential race.
Protests across Europe
The second theme is protest activity in several European countries. This week, housing organisations, trade unions and activist groups from seven countries met in Paris and issued a joint call for demonstrations. The programme asks whether the separate national protest movements are turning into a coordinated European movement.
The programme runs for 47 minutes. It was written and presented by Gavin Lee.
